CCSC Meeting Jan 11th, 2022

The above is an audio file with the recording from our last meeting, in case you missed it!

The Constitution is the law of the land here in America. Unfortunately, most of us don't really know what it says, much less how to interpret it. Join us as we learn from Christin McMasters who has a Ph.D. in political science and is an expert in the Constitution. Bring your students and friends!

Our last meeting was very well-attended! We heard from Neil Brendle, County Clerk who helped us better understand his role in our local government. He is up for re-election.

Walt Harris is running for County Commissioner and shared his perspective and why he is running.

Sheriff Hiatt shared his background and how he became sheriff, what he loves about his job, what's hard about it, and what the role of the Sheriff's department is in our community. He also shared the annual review of the Sheriff's Office with all the latest information on what was accomplished in 2021.

These officers have been busy!

Kevin Hayes, the vice-chair of the Constitution Party, also explained what his party stands for.

It was a very informative meeting with a lot of great connections made!

If you or someone you know is interested in running for office, we are encouraging regular, tax-paying citizens to run. We need you and specifically, we could use more people to run for the school board positions.

Please contact Michela Huff at the Surry Board of Elections for all the info you need to start that process!

or call 336-401-8227

You have to file with the state of NC and the filing dates start at 8 a.m. Thursday, February 4, and end at noon Friday, March 4.

We hope you will join us for the next meeting as we gain a better understanding of the Constitution!

Bring friends, family, and students!
